CIRCA ROAD TRIP

Design Detour: The Lynden Lane Co.

Full-service event design and interiors firm The Lynden Lane Co. specializes in a "beyond the beach house" aesthetic, a deep-seated belief in layered spaces that keeps owner Barbi Walters and her daughters Layne and Lyndsey on the same page. The trio’s cross-generational perspective transcends trends and champions livability — think cozy textures and personal mementos against a backdrop of antiques and modern pieces alike. "We seek to design elevated spaces and create personal sanctuaries that take your breath away," says Barbi.

"We had our Christmas party at Selanne, and we’ve spent many Friday evenings there over the years as well. It’s near and dear to our hearts and the design is impeccable. Walking inside is like getting a warm hug. It’s the coziest little gem, and the food is to die for."

TRY THIS

"Our go-to fabrics and wallpapers are textural. We don’t necessarily have a go-to pattern or color, but we always look for something that makes a surface interesting. Even if a room’s palette is completely neutral, we lean into textures like seagrass, linen, raw silk, or even mixed elements — Schumacher’s Gilded Linen is our most recent love."

BRIGHT IDEA

"Choosing lighting is a two-fold process. First, there’s the function of the lighting: how it’s going to light the room. This is all about layering overhead, mid-level, standing height and cozy reading lights to create a well-rounded space. Then there’s what the pieces look like. We love a dramatic pendant light. To us, pendants are art installations. We have the Precision Large Pendant by Kelly Wearstler sketched into an interiors project as we speak. They’re beautiful, bold, and dramatic in multiples."

HOT TIP

"Our favorite local artisan is glassblower Caleb Siemon. He uses rich, bold colors, and even his clear pieces are so interesting in texture. Every piece is a work of art and if you ask us, every home needs original works of art."

STOP IN

"Aris Laguna Beach by Trey Russel is like walking into a little museum. We always leave feeling inspired to create a beautiful space. It’s a funky, quaint cottage with clothes, amazing jewelry, mohair blankets, and every coffee table book you could ever want, all in a clean, modern, monochromatic color palette. It’s a whole experience, and we never leave without buying something."

"We think of sconces like the little earrings. Whether they’re jeweled, glass (like the Ezra Large Bath Sconce by AERIN) or alabaster, they’re always a moment."

"The Piatto Large Pendant by Thomas O'Brien is super popular right now, and with good reason. It adds warmth and texture and can be used in a wide range of spaces."

"We love the Fliana Floor Lamp by AERIN. It’s like a little sculpture — transitional, grounded, and elegant."
