Design Detour: SLC Interiors

Natalie Lebeau of SLC Interiors perfectly articulates the firm’s aesthetic when she describes their rooms as marked by a “relaxed coastal elegance.” From alpaca throws always at arms’ reach to rattan chairs and abaca rugs underfoot, texture reigns supreme in these rooms, with pattern playing a key supporting role. The result is serene and family-friendly spaces that invite rest and make a quiet impact.

“Though we are based in the Boston area, our main clientele consists of out-of-towners looking for the quintessential Cape Cod summer,” Lebeau says. “The pace of life is meant to slow down here, so the colors and materials we use in our designs evoke a cool, relaxed vibe with a focus on ease.”

HOT TIP

“Pauline from Patina Designs is an uber talented fine artist. We recently commissioned her for a modern toile wallpaper showcasing the city of Boston. Our clients got to pick their favorite sights, and it’s going to be off the charts.”

STOP IN

“We love David Neligan for gorgeous traditional antiques, and The Chatham Home is a goldmine for designer accessory shipping on the Cape. Erin and her team have an ever-evolving stock of the coolest art, tableware and decorative accessories—the finishing touches that make a house a home.”

BRIGHT IDEA

“We punctuate built-in millwork with lighting whenever possible. It adds so much drama and richness to a home’s architectural package. The Go Lightly Sconce is ideal for this with its sleek unfussy profile and soft glow.”

TRY THIS

"We always jump at the chance to incorporate the rich, batiked feel of Peter Fasano’s eponymous fabric & wallcovering line. Hand-made in the Berkshires for the past 30 years, the quality and care that goes into each pattern is unmistakable. Talia (a small-scale motif reminiscent of a traditional scallop) is an SLC favorite for punchy pillows or powder-room walls.”

RSVP

“The fried clams at Woodman’s of Essex are amazing, and they should be—Woodman’s is rumored to have invented them in 1916. We’d love to head there for a classic New England clambake with the entire SLC crew along with a few of our industry favorites—Dawn Carroll from Cumar Marble and Granite, stylist Karin Lidbeck, Julie Murphy from Designer Draperies of Boston, Donna Venegas of Venegas and Company and the team at Casa Design Group. We’re nothing without the local vendors and craftspeople who strive to make our projects special.”

“We’re currently working on a project in New Orleans and had the pleasure of meeting Julie Neill in her studio, where we fell in love with her work. The dry plaster texture on the Alberto Chandelier fits so well with our signature coastal look.”
