Design Detour: BANDD DESIGN

Prior to launching BANDD DESIGN, Austin native Sara Malek Barney spent nearly a decade in Los Angeles working as an executive at SXSW, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and The Ellen DeGeneres Show — a decidedly unique pedigree that shines through in her inspired, authentic interiors. With clients throughout the city and a growing portfolio of projects, Barney gravitates toward creating spaces that feel a lot like her hometown: sleek, soulful and always a little bit glam.

"I love Vespaio — there’s just something warm and welcoming about a yummy Italian dinner. I would love for family, friends, and Vince Vaughn to join me at the table.”

STOP IN

"I like Uptown Modern for their thoughtfully curated collection of midcentury furnishings and accessories.”

BRIGHT IDEA

“When it comes to bathroom lighting, I prefer to do a wall-mounted sconce at face level like the Covet Tall Box Bath Sconce by Kelly Wearstler rather than an overhead fixture. It allows for better lighting throughout and it’s more flattering to your face in the mirror.”

HOT TIP

"Codie O’Connor has beautiful abstract prints that bring a vibrant energy into a space. I love her interesting use of color and dimension.”

TRY THIS

"Schumacher’s Queen of Spain in Warm Silver is classic and sophisticated, but can read a bit edgy — just like Austin.”
