Project Spotlight: The Cappiello

Project Spotlight: The Cappiello

Known for their modern sensibility, New York-based interior designers Jerry Cappellio and Liong The are the principals behind THE CAPPIELLO. When tasked with updating a four-story Upper East Side townhouse, the duo brought a contemporary feel to the home while preserving and enhancing its inherent character—great bones, generous propositions and extensive millwork. Discover how THE CAPPIELLO incorporated our lighting to create a space for their clients which provided a balance between comfort and vision.

Formal Living Room

Here, they incorporated many of their client's antique furniture and treasured artwork—mixing them with fresh contemporary pieces, including a pair of Hackney Floor Lamps by J. Randall Powers, Versa Large Table Lamps By Julie Neill and Reverie Double Sconces by Kelly Wearstler, to create an elegant but modern environment.

"We selected a neutral palette to take advantage of the high ceilings and classical proportions of the room."

- Jerry Cappiello

Library

Boucle upholstered swivel club chairs, a pair of Caron Floor Lamps by Thomas O'Brien and a curated selection of the clients' books and travel finds mix modern and mid-century styles.

"Keeping the intrinsic personality and beautiful millwork of the room, we created a clubby reading retreat that also functions as a cocktail entertaining space."

- Jerry Cappiello

The Lancelot Pivoting Floor Lamp by AERIN adds a touch of retro appeal with its sleek lines and cylindrical metallic shade.

Dining Room

Contemporary finishes were chosen for the Riga Buffet Lamp by AERIN and the Robinson Medium Chandelier by Chapman & Myers to illuminate the antique sideboard and dining table. "We refreshed this space with fresh furnishings, lighting, drapery, art and accessories to better harmonize the character and colors of the room to the adjoining garden." -Liong The

Office

A previously unused space became an intimate area for an office. Taking advantage of the high ceilings and view of the adjoining Upper East Side townhouses across the street, the duo incorporated the Utopia Medium 5 Arm Chandelier by Kelly Wearstler to evoke a hint of drama from above. The clean simplicity of the Stylus Large Angled Table Lamp by Barbara Barry creates a chic statement atop the desk.

Casual Living Room

A complete renovation transformed this previous office into an informal relaxing space. Atop a floating credenza, the nature-inspired Sierra Buffet Lamp by Thomas O'Brien complements the room's casual feel. "We believe that the greatest design is the one that elevates and defines your personal vision and aesthetic. What you see, touch and use every day plays an essential role in defining who you are." - Jerry Cappiellio

Classic with a strong, modern base, the Frankfort Floor Lamp's long, streamlined silhouette seamlessly illuminates this cozy corner.

An antique mirror gives this cocktail corner an old-world feel, while the Cleo Pendant by Kelly Wearstler and Caron Table Lamp by Thomas O'Brien bring modern sophistication and soul to the space.

Master Bedroom

Soft, warm and pale colors set the mood for a complete overhaul of the master bedroom. Luxe materials, including a pair of Lineham Table Lamps in Alabaster by AERIN, were layered throughout to create an organic look.

The Elsie Table Lamp in Blush by Kate Spade New York provides brilliant sculptural contrast with its bold glass globe base. "All the details should bring clarity, elegance and comfort; to live in a well-designed space is to embrace the priorities in your life." - Liong The

Daybed Room

A previous kid's space became an extra guest room. In a neutral sea of warm camel, beige and black, the geometric silhouette of the Laban Hanging Shade by AERIN complements the graphic rug below.

The bold composition of the Cleo Orb Base Accent Lamp by Kelly Wearstler juxtaposes organic feminine curves with sleek masculine precision.

Guest Bedroom

The Darina Large Table Lamp in Volcanic Ivory by AERIN injects calming texture in this guest bedroom's sea of soothing grays.

Double Twin Bedroom

Featuring a hammered metal frame, the understated curves of the Scala Hand-Forged Table Lamp by Ian Fowler give elegant dimension to the space. "Taking advantage of the generous space on the upper level, we created a young modern room for two with warm coral and rust colors against a neutral white palette." - Jerry Cappiellio

Inspired by a mid-century modern design, the Clarkson Floor Lamp by AERIN allows for guests to curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace. "Contemporary furnishings, curated accessories and a cozy fireplace makes this a favorite room for many when visiting." - Liong The

Each of the two built-in workspaces are brilliantly illuminated by the Lancelot Pivoting Desk Lamp by AERIN in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass.
