Austin-based designer Kristen Nix, known for her clean-lined and airy aesthetic, always approaches design with functionality in mind. Since she launched her business in 2011, Kristen has been crafting spaces that are equal parts sophistication and practicality. Kristen’s own office (pictured here) with bleached ash woodwork, a neutral palette, and the Hargett Buffet Lamp by J. Randall Powers is a testament to her motto, “beautiful design feels good.”

A master of tonal layering, Nix proves that spaces with minimal color can still have maximum impact. The crisp white of floor-to-ceiling paneling climbs the staircase and harmonizes with two distinct textures of light wood—the floor's herringbone pattern and the faintly whitewashed woodgrain of an asymmetric console. This refined vignette is punctuated by the handsome dark lines of the Hargett Buffet Lamp by J. Randall Powers and black lacquered stair railing which anchors this artful composition.

The Addison Medium Table Lamp by Christopher Spitzmiller in Dark Honey adds just the right pop of color to this beige and French blue color scheme. A jute-wrapped and tonal tattersall wallcovering epitomize Kristen’s signature use of texture.

Here, a primarily white palette allows scale to take center stage with three eye-catching elements. The wide gray variegations of a marble backsplash balance the detailed floral pattern of roman shades. These dressed triple windows backdrop a pair of our Dalston Hanging Shades by J. Randall Powers and bring them into sharp focus.

This timeless kitchen in bright white and warm honey tones masterfully displays the power of thoughtful lines. A hexagonal white tile backsplash with subtle black grouting, herringbone floors and the sharp angles of the mid-century-inspired bar stools are perfectly adjunct to the geometry of the Gale Large Pendants by Thomas O’Brien.

This monochromatic sitting room brilliantly melds modern and traditional elements yielding a space that is contemporary yet cozy. Subtle juxtapositions such as a gleaming stainless-steel fireplace framed by skirted console tables, each bearing a Brooks Table Lamp J. Randall Powers, create an equilibrium of warmth and polish.

Among other elements, a melody of blue tones bestow effervescence upon this living room. A pair of Studio Adjustable Floor Lamps by Studio VC and Modern Table Lamps by Ralph Lauren bookend a tailored sofa.

Warm neutrals, clear lines and contemporary accents like cane chairs and a marble side table make for sleek yet inviting sitting room. The classic design of the Studio Swing Arm Floor Lamps by Studio VC—tucked on each side of the slope-armed sofa—adds an understated layer to the space.

Layering oatmeal fabrics and amber wood tones ensures the space does not skew too stark. Here, the overlapping lines of the Hackney Bridge Arm Floor Lamp by J. Randall Powers mimic the angles of an East Asian pagoda and complement the room’s feng shui feel.

Pairing the Miles Floor Lamp by Chapman & Myers with a pink barrel back tripod chair, Nix brings a contemporary flair to this light-filled nook.

Minimal touches of bronze and nickel hardware accentuate the tonal palette of this spacious bathroom. A lucite z-shaped chair sits between dual sinks, which are flanked by a pair of Mercer Long Box Lights by Thomas O’Brien.

A graphic grasscloth wallcovering and a floating marble sink makes an instant statement in this powder bath. Dark accents like the Hackney Single Sconce by J. Randall Powers, and a sleek mirror frame finish the room with a touch a drama.

Atop a grasscloth-wrapped chest, the Hargett Buffet Lamp by J. Randall Powers beautifully complements the soft hues and delicate feel of this whimsical nursery.
