Design Detour: Elissa Grayer
Two decades after launching her namesake interiors firm, Elissa Grayer is clear on what makes a great beach house. Hint: it has very little to do with what’s inside. Favoring high-quality performance fabrics and a palette that reflects the beauty of the surrounding landscape, Grayer creates rooms that keep the focus on outdoor activities, relaxation and casual entertaining. “Easy-care finishes allow for more time with family and friends,” she says, “which is what the Hamptons is all about.”
RSVP
I just had dinner at Le Bilboquet on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, and I can’t wait to go back. My dream dinner party there would include some design friends (Kate Singer, Libby Langdon, Tamara Stephenson and Corey Damen Jenkins) and a mix of Hamptons notables, some good friends, like Michael Davis and Annie Falk, and some I’d love to meet: Colson Whitehead and of course, Ina Garten.
STOP IN
Fishers Home Furniture has everything from Dash & Albert rugs to John Robshaw pillows and bedding. I also love Hudson Grace in Sag Harbor—they have great pieces for entertaining, especially the rainbow glassware.
BRIGHT IDEA
I love to use glass and reflective surfaces, as well as natural materials that echo the sea and the sand.
HOT TIP
"The Grenning Gallery has a large collection of local Hamptons painters. Laura Grenning has a great eye and supports her local artistic community with studio tours and gallery openings."
TRY THIS
“Kravet’s quick-ship performance fabrics are always a great option, and Stitch It Up in Indigo is a go-to for my Hamptons projects.”
