Design Detour: Charlotte Moss

In a career spanning four decades (and with 12 books and countless brand partnerships to her name), Charlotte Moss has built the kind of a reputation most designers dream of. Her rooms are at once strong and understated, defined by rich hues and classical accents -- think leopard pillows on a chintz sofa with a stack of pictures hung above.

Invariably, Charlotte designs each space with a chic and deeply comfortable aesthetic that works anywhere, and feels especially at home in New York.

RSVP

The Carlyle Hotel is the perfect place to have dinner and an overnight, and Bemelmans Bar is a great spot for cocktails. As for who I’d like to have dinner with -- the more the merrier, after the year we’ve had!”

BRIGHT IDEA

“We used the Antonio Articulating Easel Floor Lamp in our Kips Bay bedroom to add a layer of light and incorporate a piece of artwork at the same time.”

HOT TIP

“Artisans are essential to our business. For porcelain and faux flowers I work with Clare Potter and Vladimir Kanevsky and for bespoke leather goods I use Vogel Bindery. For our Kips Bay bedroom, we commissioned artist Anne Harris to paint this mural around the fireplace, titled Early Morning on the Nile.”
