Design Detour: Jeff Andrews Design

Beloved by celebrities and clients with a certain style mandate, Jeff Andrews creates spaces that live at the intersection of luxe modernity and old-world glamour. In a city known for drama, Andrews’ greatest strengths are his push-pull studies in contrast and the surrealist effect of his set-piece style decorating. After all, why hang a few Fornasetti plates when you could use a wallpaper featuring hundreds?

Jar in Los Angeles is a favorite for both personal and professional dinners. Two years ago, I hosted the release party for my book there, and I just ran into Architectural Digest West Coast Editor Mayer Rus there a few weeks ago. I would actually love to re-create that party and spend the evening dining and dancing with all my friends, family, clients, colleagues, editors and design glitterati of LA to celebrate. Chef Suzanne Tracht has done such a fantastic job at bringing elevated comfort food to our little corner of LA.”

STOP IN

“With a carefully curated selection of offerings from furniture to fine accessories, Garde is a go-to shopping destination for me. I always find something, whether it inspires a whole room or serves as the cherry on top.”

BRIGHT IDEA

“I love grouping multiples of a chic pendant, like Thomas O'Brien's Hicks Large Pendant, above kitchen islands or in a two-story entry. They create a focal point and a dramatic design moment — the WOW factor that makes a home unique and special. I love to mix different sizes of the same pendant together to make it feel like an art installation.”

HOT TIP

“I absolutely love the work of L.A. ceramicist Adam Silverman — each piece is a work of art. With so much thought and care put into texture and shape, he creates unique sculptural pieces that always elevate a room.”

TRY THIS

“My go-to wallpaper is Inked from my own Glazed collection of wallcoverings for Astek. It was inspired by pottery glazes, and it’s reminiscent of a street map — nothing is more L.A. than our endless hours spent driving around Southern California. Depending on the colorway you choose, it can read as bold and dramatic, or more subdued. I have used this wallpaper everywhere from a powder room to a kitchen ceiling to a massive three-story staircase, and I may use it in my own home that I’m currently renovating.”

”I love the geometry and the cage-like quality of the Zeno Lantern by Chapman & Myers. The shadows it creates are stunning.”

”The Star Flush Mount by Eric Cohler is simple but packs a mighty punch. These look great in a long hallway instead of basic cans or overdone pendants, and they look great in a bathroom as well. I also love them on a wall!”

”Chic uplight fixtures like the Quarter Sphere Small Up Light by Peter Bristol are hard to find! In modern or especially grand spaces, it helps to light the room with a mix that includes uplighting — an important design tool."
