Design Detour: Charlotte Lucas

With a playbook of antique rugs, large-scale florals and sumptuous textures, Charlotte Lucas makes a splash by playing to her strengths — and nailing the maximalist mix is no easy feat. The designer counts the city’s hidden-gem galleries and proximity to High Point as her secret weapons, and one signature move is working her client’s meaningful family heirlooms into a fun and current context.

Conservation is always key... Zoe donates initial consultation fees to environmentally focused charities. “Our mission is to leave the world more beautiful than we found it,” Feldman says.

Supperland just opened up and I'm dying to try it! I love anything old & with a story, so the fact that the restaurant is located in a restored mid-century church and the meals are served on custom china has me drooling in more ways than one! Last year, right before the pandemic hit, we had a ‘last supper’ event at Capitol with many of Charlotte's most inspiring women, and I'd love to have a few of those same special women join me at this dinner Laura Vinroot Poole, Barrie Benson, Chandra Johnson, and Allison Welch to name a few!”

TRY THIS

“This pattern is from my own wallpaper and fabric line, House of Harris, and it’s named after my very own tree-lined street here in Charlotte! It's a great statement wallpaper in a bedroom, but I also love it as drapery in a neutral shade.”

BRIGHT IDEA

“My design philosophy is that minor details make a major impact, so it's common for me to use table lamps and then take it up a notch by creating a custom shade that fits with the scheme of the room and adds a bit more interest and excitement.”

HOT TIP

"We love the wonderful team at Nectar Floral Boutique. While florists aren't typically referred to as artists, these arrangements are true works of art. Whenever we have client visits, office events, or photoshoots, we call on their team to bring our vision to life, and we’re never disappointed!"

STOP IN

Charlotte Rug Gallery is located directly below our studio and has the most gorgeous collection of vintage rugs. Whenever clients come to town, we always carve out some time to venture downstairs together. It's a fun field trip for all and their team quite literally rolls out the red carpet for us, making the process so seamless and enjoyable."
