Design Detour: Cathy Austin

Cathy Austin’s rooms bear the mark of her unique design pedigree, which led her to Charlotte after a stint at Sotheby’s in New York and a time in the Atlanta interiors scene. Viewing herself as an interpreter of her clients’ tastes, she creates bespoke interiors that infuse artistic, colorful elements at every turn. Cathy’s recipe for curated, classic style goes something like this: one part luxe, one part vintage, a touch of animal print, some patterned wallpaper, a dash of shine and a saturated zing of color.

To Cathy, the colors of spring (daffodil yellow, camelia pink, pear-blossom green) capture the city’s vibe best. “There’s always something blooming in Charlotte,” she says.
