Design Detour: Allison Elebash

Allison Elebash creates interiors that harmonize the traditional elegance of Charleston with the laid-back sensibility and comfort of seaside living. Drawing inspiration from the city’s rich architectural legacy as well as from the natural landscape of the Lowcountry -- the tides, the greenery, the golden light -- the firm designs restful rooms and homes for busy families.

“This city has great energy and an abundance of beauty,” Allison says. “Our interiors seek to combine the ease of modern living with the collected grace of Charleston’s rich history.”

RSVP

“It would be wonderful to gather around a large table with a dozen of our closest friends, especially since we haven’t been able to get together in over a year due to COVID restrictions! I would invite everyone for cocktails at The Dewberry’s rooftop terrace, which has the best panoramic views of Charleston’s skyline. Then dinner in the courtyard at Malagon, our favorite dinner spot for amazing Spanish tapas every dish is to die for. Finally, we’d head to Graft Wine Bar for great music and a nightcap glass of wine. My husband, LeGrand, is a big wine enthusiast and I am always happy to hand the wine list over to him.”

TRY THIS

Fritz Porter in Charleston’s historic Cigar Factory is an amazing resource for great wallpaper, textiles, furnishings and one of a kind accessories. Hash’ in Cornflower by Maresca Textiles is a current favorite — I’m loving it for an upholstered headboard or lumbar pillow. The soft blue reminds me of Charleston’s waterways, and the pattern provides visual interest without overwhelming the eye.”

BRIGHT IDEA

“For an airy grouping that still makes a big impact, we like to pair several glass globe pendants like the Turenne Medium Globe Pendant over a bar or in a butler’s pantry. It makes a bold statement in an unexpected place.”

HOT TIP

“We feel so fortunate to work in a city that nurtures many talented artists and artisans. We commissioned Benjamin Paul Studio to make pieces for several recent projects, and we love to incorporate custom wood pieces by Eric Brooks into our clients’ homes. For a Kiawah Island project, we designed a custom dining table, which Nietert Antique Restorations built for us. Artwork is also one of our favorite items to source and to incorporate into a home it can have such a profound impact on a space. George Gallery, Ann Long Fine Art and Charleston Artist Collective are my favorite galleries to discover new artists and visit old favorites like William Halsey, Douglas Balentine and Jill Hooper.”

STOP IN

Antiques South Windermere and Elizabeth Stuart Design are always treasure troves for antiques, vintage pieces, and one-of-a-kind accent rugs, and I love picking up a julep cup from Croghan’s Jewel Box on King Street to display fresh blooms.”
