Project Spotlight: Bennett Leifer x One Hundred Barclay
Domino presents
Bennett Leifer x One Hundred Barclay
Interior designer Bennett Leifer is known for his ability to blend sophisticated color palettes, historical references and creative concepts. When Domino called on the New York City-based designer to revive a model unit for the historic One Hundred Barclay, Leifer transcended expectations. Located in the heart of downtown Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood, the three-bedroom, 2,355-square-foot home had its challenges - an irregular-shaped living room, and both a limited budget and timeline. With only three months to complete the space, Leifer encompassed his signature aesthetic to create a fresh space that echoed the building's rich legacy.
For the Long Island-born designer, lighting was an essential element. "When it came to lighting, I focused more on things that felt handmade, that felt sculptural, or just felt very simple and perfect," Leifer told Domino. Discover how our lighting effortlessly encapsulated the historical beauty of Loft 13B!
With the status of the world's first Art Deco skyscraper, the building's history played a vital role in Leifer's vision. Luxurious velvet upholstery in jewel tones of emerald and sapphire were chosen to preserve the building's 'twenties-era allure. The Arpont Floor Lamp in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass with a Parchment Stitched Shade accentuates the sitting room's iconic feel.
The understated, delicate form of the Dauphine Lamps sit atop an antique mirrored console table in the entry hall, creating sculptural balance with the vivid velvet stools and gold-leafed mirror.
The hand-carved alabaster finish of the Halcyon Accent Table Lamps create a soft, natural contrast against the lively cobalt-blue workstation.
It's no mystery why Leifer has collaborated with wallpaper purveyor De Gournay to illustrate a New York neighborhood in the dining space. “I live on Gramercy Park. I love Gramercy Park. It’s always been important to me. [We’re] also giving one more view that you don’t necessarily have from the apartment," Leifer told Domino. A pair of Darlana Wall Lanterns in an Aged Iron finish underscore the classic Manhattan moment.
Incorporating a peacock-inspired palette, the master suite highlights Leifer's remarkable ability to seamlessly layer texture and color. The narrow velvet stripes of the upholstered headboard and the dipped metallic finish of the Marmont Table Lamps (discontinued) create striking dimension against the vibrant silk wallcovering.
With the help of California Closets, Leifer created the ultimate custom master dressing room. The Anneu Table Lamp lights the closet vanity to evoke organic beauty.
Swathed in a metallic-washed linen, Leifer went with a neutral, yet glamourous, palette in this chic bathroom. The Alderly Small Flush Mount illuminates the ceiling's whimsical scene, magically mimicking real antique mirrored paneling.
Romantic hues of red and punchy pinks make a charming statement in the third bedroom. The sleek curves of the ceiling/ brilliantly complement the Joshua Tree print.
