The 2019 Southern Living Showcase Home

For the 2019 Southern Living Showcase Home in Nashville, Tennessee, builders Mary and Patrick Hatcliff of Hatcliff Construction sought the help of Architect Alyson Sailer and six talented southern designers to put a fresh twist on traditional style. Sailer, who modeled the home after Nashville’s Grassmere Historic Home (today it is the site of the Nashville Zoo), approached her design with such precision that she “counted bricks” of the original structure. “Character is often lost in new construction, but we wanted to show how to capture older-home details in smart ways,” Mary Hatcliff told Southern Living. Foyer by Kevin Walsh

Kevin Walsh of Bear Hill Interiors in Little Rock Arkansas opted for a square table instead of a ubiquitous round one saying, "Round would have been the obvious choice, but I wanted to shake things up a bit." He completed the look with a chintz table skirt and the Montmartre Medium Chandelier by AERIN above.

Living Room by Ashley Gilbreath

“Finding the perfect balance of old and new helps the look feel current yet traditional,” explained Ashley Gilbreath of Montgomery, Alabama. To avoid creating an overwhelming environment, Gilbreath divided the room into several seating groups that make chatting easier for guests. To do this, she opted for floor lamps - the Hargett Bridge Arm Floor Lamp by J. Randall Powers and the Grenol Floor Lamp - instead of table side lamps.

This vibrant loft space showcases color use at its best. A pair of Chambers Medium Table Lamps by Christopher Spitzmiller in Aqua Crackle bookend a leafy green velvet sofa and tie in the adjacent cerulean chair. Classic design choices such as white walls and warm metals as seen in the Launceton Medium Square Lantern by Chapman & Myers in Antique-Burnished Brass allow for eye-catching furnishings and decorative accents. "Stick with colors that appeal to you [and] possibly bring in different shades of a color,” suggested Walsh.
