Coastal Living Idea House 2018
The 2018 Coastal Living Idea House
For this year's Coastal Living Idea House in Habersham, South Carolina, Charleston-based interior designer Jenny Keenan and locally based architectural designer Eric Moser joined forces to design an idyllic cottage that would create a harmonious transition between the indoors and out. Tour the modernized marshfront home and shop the lighting looks selected by Keenan!
Living Room
Keenan layered a variety of natural woods, woven textures and organic finishes, including the Gaios Table Lamp in Pharaoh White, giving visual balance to the rich peacock sisal grasscloth wallcovering. The molding was painted the same color as the walls to give sharp contrast to the lush, marshfront landscape. The Prescott Medium Mobile Chandelier, illuminates the bright, semigloss white ceiling, effortlessly reflecting the room's breathtaking view. A pair of Cranston Large Sconces with custom shades accentuate the vibrant painting by Sally King Benedict.
Dining Room
The Graphic Large Two-Tier Chandelier, terracotta-toned drapery, and a vivid pink skirt portrait, are lively elements that gave Keenan's cozy design a refreshing twist.
Powder Room
The contemporary palmetto-print wallcovering is a nod to an iconic symbol found in the Lowcountry. "The pattern has a familiar sense of belonging, but the monochromatic color scheme feels new and unexpected," Keenan tells Coastal Living. The decorative shell mirror and the Iveala Single Sconce in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass and Alabaster add textural contrast to the graphic walls.
Master Sitting Room
Native to South Carolina's marshland, Moser paneled the sunlit corridor with local pecky cypress, "as a way of turning a transition area into something that feels a bit more special, like an escape," he explains to Coastal Living. The Devin Floor Lamp (discontinued) in a Saddle Leather finish illuminates the cozy linen daybed found under one of Keenan's signature design elements - a vibrant gallery wall. The Goodman Small Hanging Light draws the eye down the hall to the master bedroom.
Master Bedroom
Moser incorporated exposed rafters as well as tongue-and-groove pine walls to give the master suite architectural depth and character. Keenan utilized a sage palette to connect the room with the outdoor setting. The soft, glossy silhouette of the Cristol Chandelier and Elsie Table Lamps add sculptural contrast to the airy, angular space.
Upstairs Lounge
Keenan elevated the lounge's retro aesthetic with a graphic Roy Lichtenstein poster and contemporary lighting, including the Sommerard Large Triple Arm Chandelier and the Arpont Floor Lamp.
Guest Bedroom
Keenan weaved in a variety of bohemian fabrics to complement the soothing hues of the estuary. "There's a muted, almost dusky romance to the marsh—the colors change so often, from day to day and season to season, and we wanted to reflect that in our color scheme," Keenan tells Coastal Living. The Michelena Table Lamp in a natural Chalk White finish lends organic elegance to the rattan bed, while the Paix Table Lamp (discontinued) in Plaster White and the Perry Ceiling Light highlight the modern whitewashed-oak-and-shagreen desk.
Guest Bath
Keenan carried the cool coastal aesthetic over to the bath. The relaxed shapes of the geometric watercolor wallpaper by Charleston designer Angie Hranowsky along with the Polished Nickel and Crystal Drunmore Single Sconces that flank the ornate shell mirror, all come together to create a calming, fresh look.
Girl's Bedroom
The Plaster White leaves of the Hampton Large Chandelier and graceful wildflower wallcovering seamlessly reflect the historical beauty of the Lowcountry, while the vibrant custom shades of the Hudson Swing Arm sconces speak to the region's eclectic feel.
Study Nook
The wave-like curves of the waterfall desk and the celestial silhouette of the Star Flush Mount bring the outdoors in.
