Situated in close proximity to its neighbors in Lake Nona, Orlando, The 2022 New American Home of the International Builders’ Show needed to feel like a private escape. Designed to highlight industry-best concepts, techniques, and products, this art deco oasis situated just south of the city offers moments of connection and comfort. This year’s edition, built by Envy Homes and designed by Alyssa Johansen, combines neutral tones influenced by the home’s contemporary coastal exterior, with crisp touches inspired by Miami’s art deco scene. Art deco, Johansen notes, was one of the first design styles to gain global popularity, making it a comfortable and familiar choice for this coastal, charismatic showhouse.
Head-Turning Touches
Full of eye-catching yet minimalist touches, Johansen transformed the dining area with a visually arresting installation of Verso Mini Single Pendants by Kelly Wearstler sitting atop an array of earthy table décor with shades of cream galore. On the right, the dark marbled walk in shower instantly adds mood, while the simplicity of the vessel sink and brass detailing of AERIN's Alpine Small Single Sconce and vanity knobs add warmth and familiarity.
Indoor Meets Outdoor Living
Kelly Wearstler's Strada Ring Chandelier in gild adds a glam touch to the intimate living room, where telescoping patio doors open to the courtyard pool.
Fun and Games
The game room on the second floor features a flex space, courtesy of sectional sofas and accent tables, punctuated by a playful lighting installation. A decorated nook beneath Sean Lavin's Hanea Grande Pendant provides privacy.
Modern Geometry
In the multifunctional home office, striking graphic patterns match the pared-down refinement of Barbara Barry's Lightwell Medium Triple Chandelier and the simplified shapes of Kelly Wearstler's Nodes Large Pivot Sconces.

Serene Sanctuary
"It was paramount that the primary bedroom feel like a private oasis," Johansen said. "The lighter coastal tones hit the sweet spot." Combining light washed wooden accents with dark detailing, brass finishes and soothing, yet eye-catching artwork make this primary bedroom feel like a safe haven.

Dream Cream
Inset lighting drapes from the ceiling to the wall in the primary bedroom, adding a crafty modern element to the home's art deco-meets-coastal vibe.
Moment of Zen
Calming tones and coastal-inspired wallpaper combined with sculptural silhouettes and warm, brass undertones leave a brilliant, tranquil effect in the primary bathroom.
