Visual Comfort Lights the Way for a Life-size Ode to an Icon in the HGTV Barbie Dream House
Ever heard of Barbiecore? Spoiler alert: it's dreamy.
Since she was first introduced in 1959, Barbie has been a symbol of can-do spirit – #goals more than a half-century before that term entered the lexicon. To celebrate the new Barbie movie in style, we worked with HGTV and the competing design teams on the HGTV Barbie Dreamhouse, featured in a four-part design challenge series hosted by supermodel, designer, author, and entrepreneur Ashley Graham. Each design team was assigned a decade in Barbie’s history to use as inspiration for their space, and the results are a dream come true. Read on to see Visual Comfort & Co. pieces in the 90s-inspired living room, the totally 80s primary suite, Ken’s 70s-era disco den, and Barbie’s ultimate dream closet.
In the living room, designed by Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson of “Married to Design,” the Londyn Large Chandelier by kate spade new york crowns a double-height space defined by sporty neon accents, a graphic fireplace treatment and windows featuring silhouettes of iconic Barbies throughout history.
In the adjoining bath, the designers went big with splashy overscaled florals, a rosy-hued shower surround, and a giant Barbie brush. Meanwhile, a pair of Melange Elongated Sconces by Kelly Wearstler and the Talia Small Chandelier by Julie Neill help to create the perfect ambiance for getting glam.
For Ken’s den, Alison Victoria and Ty Pennington pulled out all the stops, installing groovy shag carpet and an LED dance floor underfoot and the Spectica 8 Chandelier by Sean Lavin overhead.
To cap off a closet renovation that would dazzle Barbie in every decade, Christina Hall and James Bender of Christina on the Coast selected the Lorelei Small Waterfall Chandelier by Julie Neill to light up a soaring space built to accommodate Barbie’s most memorable looks.
